WRAPPED Upward

Fourth dimension-strapped? Can't find the end of the cellotape? Who cares? With souvenir-wrapping guru Arona Khan's "pouch" technique you don't demand either...

1. Take one long piece of wrapping newspaper. Place your souvenir towards 1 end of it.

2. Fold the long edges over, to embrace the present.

3. Bring the two end corners (nearest the souvenir), in and slightly up and so they come across in the middle of the newspaper.

3. Curl the gift along the length of the paper, ensuring the edges are aligned. This will naturally "cocoon" the gift.

four. When y'all've reached the stop of the newspaper, neaten upwardly any raw edges and fold in the corners as before to create a clutch-bag-type finish.

5. Secure with an agglutinative bow, if desired, or with a hidden piece of double-sided tape.

You devoted hours to finding the perfect present, spent a near fortune on that expensive one-off souvenir wrap, so don't blow it with a rushed tag. We asked calligrapher Lucy Edmonds of quilllondon.com for her tips…

i. Consider the layout of your tag and your message. Will it fit? How do you want information technology to be laid out? Mock information technology upwardly in pencil until you are 100% happy – merely and so, when you are sure you can fit everything in, do you commit it to ink.

ii. What type of pen should you lot utilize? This depends partly on the length of the text. The longer your message, the finer the beak y'all will demand for the writing to be clear. And e'er take spare tags to hand, in instance of whatever mistakes.

three. Illegible handwriting? Aim for consistency – the letters should be the same meridian and width. If you're feeling confident, add together little flourishes to your capital letters and making your y, g and j shapes loopy.

FINISHED WITH PIZZAZZ

Don't stop there. Add a final flourish to your gifts past decorating them with ribbon and bows – or be even more artistic, and brand your own using natural materials (notice a florist or forage on a festive countryside walk)…

one. Stay true to the season and secure a sprig of holly and berries, or mistletoe to your parcel using raffia or string.

2. Attach a bundle of eucalyptus or fragrant herbs such as rosemary and bay leaves, past fixing it with a ribbon bow.

three. Scour nearby green spaces for seed heads and miniature pinecones, which tin can be either left au naturel or sprayed with silver or aureate paint. In one case dry, set up them with craft wire. Find inspiration and materials at hobbycraft.co.uk.
